Maryland made a change at defensive coordinator on Thursday, replacing Brian Stewart and promoting inside linebackers coach Keith Dudzinski.
The Terrapins and Stewart “mutually agreed to part ways,” according to a statement from the school. Stewart, who spent the past three seasons as the team’s defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach, will not be retained in a different role.
Dudzinski, 46, has served as the team’s inside linebackers coach for the past four seasons. He was a defensive coordinator at UMass and Northeastern earlier in his career.
Maryland finished 95th in the FBS in total defense last season and tied for 87th in points allowed, surrendering 30.2 per game.
