Remember this same Princeton team defeated Hopkins last week at Homewood. What a difference today as Charlie Raffa returned to his old face off form winning 13 of 20 especially during the Terps 6 goal run at the end of the 3rd.
Sophomore Matt Rambo tallied his second hat trick of the season to lead the No. 9 Maryland men’s lacrosse team to an 11-4 victory over No. 10 Princeton on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
Maryland’s defense had an exceptional performance, holding Princeton well below its season average of 14.7 goals per game coming into the contest. The Terps also snapped Kip Orban’s NCAA-leading 29-game goal scoring streak, which dated back to March 5, 2013.
Maryland (4-1) and Princeton (3-1) exchanged goals to open up the game, 2-2, before Rambo scored the second of his three goals with 1:24 remaining the second quarter to give Maryland a 3-2 advantage at the intermission.
The Terrapins held a 4-3 advantage midway through the third quarter before the floodgates opened.
Maryland used a six-goal run, including three goals over the span of 1:26 and two goals from Jay Carlson that came just nine seconds apart, to open a commanding 10-3 lead. from umterps.com
