The Maryland football team held their second spring workout Saturday afternoon at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
With projected starting quarterback Caleb Rowe sidelined for spring practice, Perry Hills and Shane Cockerille have gotten to split reps with the first team. After Saturday’s workout Cockerille expressed his excitement on the opportunity he has this spring.
“It’s really been a great experience,” Cockerille said. “I’m just excited for the opportunity that I’ve been put in. Going out there on the first team, coming from the scout team last year, the speed has been a lot different. Other than that, I’m just trying to bring what I’ve learned in the classroom out onto the field.”
The redshirt sophomore spent his first two seasons at Maryland in a reserve role learning from veterans C.J. Brown and Rowe. With another year in the system and additional reps, Cockerille is continuing his development at the quarterback position.
