Ikeda and Bernlohr Nab Big 10 Player of the Week Honors

Senior defender Casey Ikeda has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and junior goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr has been named Big Ten Co-Specialist of the Week for their efforts in leading the Maryland men’s lacrosse team to a pair of victories last week.

Ikeda led a fantastic defensive unit that allowed just eight goals in two games this week, picking up six ground balls, causing a turnover and dishing an assist. The senior posted two ground balls in limited action against Robert Morris, before tallying a season-high four ground balls in the Big Ten opener versus Michigan. Ikeda and the Terps currently lead the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 4.78 goals per game.

Bernlohr continued to display why he is one of the best goalkeepers in the nation, allowing just three goals in 84:45 (2.12 GAA – .786 sv%) of action in two wins this week. The junior played just 30 minutes against Robert Morris, shutting out the Colonials and making five saves. He then allowed only three goals in Maryland’s win over Michigan. Bernlohr currently leads in the nation in GAA (4.49) and save percentage (.697).
