Senior wide receiver Marcus Leak hauled in three touchdown receptions in the first half to lead the Red team to a 21-16 win over the White squad in the 2015 Red-White Spring Game on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
Leak opened up the scoring with a 26-yard catch-and-run from junior quarterback Perry Hills. Hills completed 12-of-24 passes for 212 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.
Senior kicker Brad Craddock, the reigning Lou Groza Award winner, connected on a 50-yard field goal to get the White team on the board.
Junior wide receiver DeAndre Lane caught a 52-yard reception from Hills to set up Leak’s second touchdown of the day from three yards out to lift the Red team to 14-3 lead.
Leak followed with a circus-like 28-yard catch, snagging the ball over junior defensive back Jarrett Ross to give the Red team a 21-3 lead. Leak finished with six receptions for 132 yards and the aforementioned three touchdowns.
“I was just trying to make a play and I was fortunate to come down with it,” Leak said. “When your name is called you just want to make a play. I was fortunate enough to do so today.”
Sophomore defensive back Antwaine Carter added an interception, a blocked field goal and tackle for a loss for the White squad.
