Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough to compete for Team USA – Todd Carton

Two weeks ago, Maryland released an item that qualifies for inclusion in the basketball news non-Rasheed Sulaimon commitment division when the Terrapins became on of just three NCAA teams who had a trio of players invited to the USA Basketball Women’s Pan American Games and World University Games Team Trials. The three players, Lexie Brown, Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough are all rising  juniors who have led the Terrapins to back to back Final Fours for the first time in program history.

Entering the trials, which took place May 14-17 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brown was the only one of the three with previous experience on Team USA. She won gold with the U.S. Under-18 Team at the FIBA World Championships in 2012.

After the trials concluded Sunday, USA Basketball announced the 12 player rosters for both the Women’s World University Games (WWUG) and the Pan American Games (PAG). Jones was named to the WWUG squad which will be headed by Northwestern’s head coach, Joe McKeown. Walker-Kimbrough will represent Maryland on the PAG squad which will also see a B1G coach, Iowa’s Lisa Bluder, at the helm.

Maryland, which was one of only three universities to have three players invited to the trials, is the only school with at least one player on each of the two rosters. The WWUG roster includes a pair of Tennessee Lady Vols and the PAG roster boasts two players from South Carolina and Connecticut.

The PAG women’s basketball competition will take place in Toronto, Canada beginning July 16th with the gold medal game scheduled for July 20th. The WWUG begin about two weeks earlier on July 4th in Gwangju, South Korea and will wrap up with the gold medal game on July 13th. This will be the first international experience on Team USA for both Jones and Walker-Kimbrough.
