Terps Defeat a Stubborn Wisconsin Team 83-77—-1 Win Away from Another Big 10 Regular Season Title

Junior Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 16 of her 27 points in the first half as sixth-ranked Maryland extended its winning streak to five games with an 83-77 victory over Wisconsin on Thursday night.

“I thought Wisconsin came in and was really inspired,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “I thought they played a complete 40-minute game and we struggled a bit to start. Once we picked up the defensive intensity, we were able to do a good job. It was a game of fragments, but I thought we were able to do some nice things in the second half.”

Brionna Jones added 20 points and eight rebounds for the Terrapins (26-3, 15-2 Big Ten), who went 11 of 20 (55 percent) from 3-point range.

Maryland will have to play with considerably more energy and intensity Sunday against a Minnesota team that, despite their impressive 11-6 Big Ten conference record, might still be on the outside looking in at an NCAA Tournament bid.

One specific task is they’d better not go underneath ball screens against MN and either Rachel Banham or Carlie Wagner they way they did last night against Nicole Bauman or they are likely to find themselves badly burned.
