Valiant Comeback Led By Jake Layman Falls Short as Terps Drop 83-79 Decision to Purdue

My comments:

This team cannot put a 40 minute game effort together–another horrible start

Rebounding 41-22 Purdue—the offensive rebounds the Terps allow are beyond belief

Melo was a little better today–wish he would have shot more down the wire

My praise for Dodd this morning–well forget about it–0 points, o rebounds

SO often a team rallies from far behind only to fall short—energy is used up in the comeback

Yes it was DJ Carstensen (bald headed tall ref) that once again did the Terps in on his automatic foul call against Jake where Jake got all ball. This guy is a curse for Maryland.

My only suggestion now is to wake up this team by pressing much more. The lethargy is inexcusable.

The only solace about today was uttered by Seth Greenberg after the game. When Jay Williams said the Terps are just a horrible road team, Seth reminded him that the NCAAs are played on a neutral courts. It is something to hold on to.

Ready for this stat–only 6 turnovers–I guess the stair climbing helped.

You only mentioned one of three late calls that went against the Terps (the double technical after Stone got pushed from behind and and the reversal of the call out of bounds play being the other two) but Maryland’s lack of rebounding cost them this game.

Purdue’s offensive rebounds contributed to creating the deficit at the beginning of the game and thwarted Maryland’s comeback late. Maryland was -14 in second chance points in a four point loss. That means, take away three ORs on which Purdue scored and even if the Terps don’t score on those extra possessions, neither does Purdue making the end result MD 79 – Purdue 77.

The men’s basketball team, this year, is the most frustrating team ever in Terps basketball history. I started rooting for Maryland when Frank Fellows was the coach and Will Hetzel was the best player on the team. Then there was lefty who had a great team in 1973 & was not allowed in the NCAA tournament. Reason was that NC State beat Maryland, in double over time, in the ACC tournament final and only one team from a conference could go to the tournament at that time. Then watch Gary Williams win it all in 2002. Now let’s go back to the starting sentence above. The team has enough talent to win it all but because of poor judgment, less than stellar starts & excessive turn overs they will probably only go to the sweet 16.

they made a nice run at the end.

once again they don’t play hard for 40 minutes,

once again they can’t box out and so they get crushed on the boards. and the lack of hustle going after the basketball is sad. no desire too much of the time.

why didn’t nickens and layman touch the ball more in the second half?

    this was a winnable game.

many teams mirror their coaches personality. turgeon for the most part just sits there.

many thought hetzel was a flake and he was but he was a terrific player on a bad team
