Picking Tom Brady and the Patriots to win at home is usually close to money in the bank. Two of the three insiders took the Ravens to win regardless. Even the insider who picked the Patriots acknowledged the Ravens could make this a tough game without Rob Gronkowski available.
The first insider picking the Ravens did so because he thought Ravens pass-rushers Elvis Dumervil and Terrell Suggs could affect the game sufficiently, especially without Gronkowski. The other insider picking Baltimore was far from adamant about his choice.
“Baltimore does not let you score, but that is what New England has been so great at, too, even though nothing stands out about the Patriots defensively,” this evaluator said. “Baltimore makes you one-dimensional by not letting you run, which actually doesn’t matter for the Patriots. That might actually favor Brady. But without Gronk, I could see the Ravens winning this. It might come down to the kickers, and right now, the Ravens have the best kicker in the NFL.”
