Terrapin Nine Completes Weekend Sweep Defeating Dayton 11-2

Maryland’s offensive exploded for 11 runs on 14 hits behind a solid start from freshman Tyler Blohm (2-1) as the Terps dominated Dayton en route to a 11-2 win in game three of the USA Baseball-Irish Classic Sunday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

The Terrapins (4-5) completed a weekend sweep with its win over the Flyers after victories over Notre Dame and No. 6 NC State. Maryland’s middle infield duo of sophomore Nick Dunn (4-for-6, 2 doubles, 3 RBI) and junior Kevin Smith (3-for-5, 2 doubles, 3 RBI) paced the offense.

Maryland jumped on Dayton starter Tyler Jones in the first, scoring three runs on five hits. Junior Zach Jancarski led off the contest with a hit for the fourth game running before moving the second on Dunn’s first base knock of the game. Jancarski would move to third on Nick Cieri’s flyout.

Senior Madison Nickens then picked up from where he left off Saturday, slapping a single to score Jancarski. That would start a wave of three consecutive singles, with junior Kevin Biondic and Smith also picked up RBI hits.
