– The Maryland women’s lacrosse team clinched at least a share of its third straight Big Ten Championship on Thursday following a 16-14 win over Penn State at the Penn State Lacrosse Field.
Boasting a 5-0 Big Ten record with one game remaining in the conference season, the Terrapins improved to 16-0 overall. Maryland wraps up the regular season on April 27 at Northwestern and can claim the outright Big Ten Championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament with one more conference victory.
The Terps scored 10 goals in the second half to break open a back-and-forth game that was tied 6-6 at the half. Freshman Kali Hartshorn led the way with four goals and one assist, while senior Zoe Stukenberg contributed two goals and dished out four assists. Caroline Steele (three), Megan Whittle (two) and Jen Giles (two) also registered multiple goals for Maryland.
The 2017 Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse Tournament will be hosted by Maryland at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on May 5 & 7, and for the first time will feature four conference teams.
