Heartbreak City—Justin Jackson to Miss Remainder of the Season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Maryland men’s head basketball coach Mark Turgeon announced Thursday after the team’s practice that sophomore forward Justin Jackson has a torn labrum in his right shoulder and will miss the remainder of 2017-2018 season.

Turgeon said that Jackson will have surgery at a later date.

“I am really disappointed for Justin as he worked extremely hard this past summer and fall to place himself in a position to have a very successful sophomore season,” Turgeon said. “After evaluating Justin’s shoulder over the past few weeks – which included extensive rehabilitation and rest – we feel the best course of action is for Justin to move forward with surgery. Justin has an extremely bright future and I am confident he will continue to be an outstanding and impactful basketball player.”

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Jackson saw action in 11 games this season with 10 starts, and averaged 9.8 points per game and had a team-high 8.1 rebounds per contest.
