Maryland men’s lacrosse senior midfielder Connor Kelly has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, while head coach John Tillman has been named Co-Coach of the Year as announced Tuesday by the Big Ten Conference.
Kelly was named First Team All-Big Ten alongside sophomore attackman Jared Bernhardt, while junior defender Curtis Corley, senior goalkeeper Dan Morris and senior defender Bryce Young were named Second Team All-Big Ten.
It marks Tillman’s second consecutive year winning conference coach of the year honors, while Kelly joined Matt Rambo as back-to-back winners of the offensive award. Kelly was named to the conference’s first team for the second consecutive season.
Kelly has been nothing short of sensational as a senior, leading the Big Ten with more than five points/g on 36 goals and 30 assists. He has more assists this season through 13 games than he did in the first 58 games of his career.
Bernhardt has had a breakout season shifting down to attack in 2018, scoring 30 goals and adding 13 assists. His seven man-up goals leads the Big Ten.
Morris has been consistently one of the top goalkeepers in the country the last two seasons, and currently leads the Big Ten with an 8.54 goals-against-average. The Senior CLASS Award finalist most recently made 13 saves in a triple overtime win against Johns Hopkins.
Young and Corley have anchored the Terrapin defensive unit in 2018, combining as two of the top defenders in the country. The tandem has combined for 21 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers this season.
The top-seed Terrapins return to action Thursday night in Ann Arbor as they take on 4th-seeded Rutgers in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. The game will air at 5 pm on Big Ten Network.
