Maryland men’s basketball head coach Mark Turgeon has announced Scott Spinelli has accepted an assistant coaching position with the Boston College men’s basketball team.
“Scott and I have known each other for a long time and have worked together for the last eight years,” Turgeon said. “He is an outstanding coach and recruiter and has been a great member of my staff while at Wichita State, Texas A&M and Maryland. Certainly this will be a major topic of disussion on Terp Talk Wednesday night. The second the news got out, I was besieged with inquiries as to what’s going on. Look the landscape of college sports has changed. When a kid is unhappy, he leaves. It’s not just at Maryland where this happens. It seems like the cavalry is arriving next year. Melo Trimble is sure to be a major contributor. Trayvon Reed and now Michal Cekovsky, each could play … Read More »
Driving home from DC in a driving snow, I was forced to slow down and miss the NIT Selection show. About 9PM, I called Wayne Viener and asked –”so who are we playing. ” His response after he accused me of kidding him, was “We didn’t make the NIT.”
Now I for one have repeatedly stated that I couldn’t care less about the NIT. But I will admit, I find it unbelievable not to have made it.
Anyway that’s 7 … Read More »
Scouting Florida State
The Seminoles closed out the regular season by winning three of their final four games, most recently falling to Syracuse, 74-58. Maryland and Florida State split the regular season series, with both teams winning their respective home contests.
Florida State is the best shooting team in the ACC, ranking first with a .465 field goal percentage. The team is strong defensively, as well, ranking second in the conference (23rd nationally) in field goal percentage defense … Read More »
Observations of a great Terrapin win:
A very strong 26 minutes from Shaq Cleare. This is very promising as Shaq has had his 2nd fine effort in a row.
Seth once again was special at home. He took over the overtime and perhaps he might become the go to guy when the game is on the line. We can only wonder how much better this team could have been with a healthy Seth Allen the entire season
Smotrycz coming off … Read More »
Some observations of a Terrapin victory with an unusual sub plot:
With the victory the Terps (8-9 in Conference Play)avoid the dreaded Wednesday game in the ACC Tournament
The Terps outscored Virginia Tech 36-18 in the 2nd half to win easily.
After Mitchell left the game, Shaq Cleare might have had his best spell as a Terp.
Layman bounced back with a decent performance tonight hitting 4 treys and finishing with 13 points.
Post game, Mark Turgeon was vague n … Read More »
Why do so many expect the Terps to beat Syracuse? I can’t put my finger on it – there is the tradition of the Terps beating #1 teams, Syracuse (who was #1 coming into the weekend) seems to be running out of gas and will not be the #1 team on Monday night. After being sky high for the Duke game, I am not sure if ‘Cuse will be on the let down side of things or mad as hell.
Syracuse is reeling right now. Two straight losses after an undefeated start. At this point of the season. Maryland is 15-12 and 7-7 in the conference but has 0 top 50 wins. If any hope exists at all to make the dance it must begin with a W tonight. Syracuse, a slight favorite plays the stingiest zone in the country but is definitely having its troubles offensively. So what do the Terps do to win tonight?
Offensively
After Duke scored … Read More »
