What a great night for Maryland hoops at the banquet last night. Optimism reigns supreme as many in attendance anxiously await the 2012-13 season. Sean Mosley was very emotional speaking of his love for the university and how much his 4 years at Maryland meant to him. I found it fascinating how the assistant coaches studied Maryland basketball history and wove it into presentation of the awards.

Little things I remember:

Walking to the game down Peachtree Lane with Chuck Rosolio and then NBA Star Sam Cassell SR. I asked Sam if he was a Terp fan that night—he assured me he was. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!

The streets were lined with thousands of IU fans who journeyed to Atlanta without tickets just to be a prt of the night.

Hugging my friend Dr Irv Raffel in the hotel. Irv was near tears of happiness repeating ‘it was finally our … Read More »

The ACC’s leading scorer quickly ended all speculation on his early exit from College Park by tweeting that he will return for his Junior year. Mark Turgeon’s team next year will have size, depth all around and if SAM CASSELL JR COMMITS–he will have the quickness, shooting ability and be 4-5 guards deep which will make the Terps a run and gun squad if need be. Awaiting Midnight Madness!!!

This one was never a contest as the Terps thoroughly dominated undefeated Marist from the opening whistle. Freshman Jay Carlson added 4 goals as Maryland tried to wash away the memory of Tuesday night’s loss to UMBC. Coach Tillman commented post game:Memo-4

The 2nd season starts today so let’s be positive and hope that the Terps can carry the energy they displayed in the 2nd half of the UVA game into today’s matchup. Coach Turgeon commented

“We’re just going to focus on Wake Forest. I think we also have to focus on mentally getting our guys ready. I think physically we have done a lot of the right things with our weight coach to try to get our guys’ legs underneath them.

About 3 weeks ago I was discussing with Jeff Barker of the Sun who should be the ACC MVP this year. Jeff told me watch Mike Scott closely when he came to Comcast. Scott was incredible Sunday. He broke the press, shot 11-20 from the Field, had 11 rebounds and yes for superstar calls from Karl Hess and his associates. Nonetheless he has been the best player I have seen this year. The NBA scouts in attendance were drooling.

I feel like I aged watching this game. Shot after shot in the 2nd half missed the mark, many of them simple cutbacks. This team just does not play well on the road. Check out these facts:

Ashton Pankey 0-8 from the field—0 points

The team shoots 34% from the field

10 turnovers 7 assists

Stogs is showing the effects of constant double team-body is very weary —shot is off   5-17 from the field

And yet the Terps lost … Read More »

“It feels great to be a part of the Maryland Terps,” said Dodd, who has been to two Terps games at Comcast Center, including Tuesday night’s win over Miami. “I knew they were looking at me, but I was just waiting to see how things played out. When they offered me, it was pretty exciting and I verbally committed.”

Dodd’s path from Eastern Shore high school hoops to the ACC – improbable as it … Read More »

Some thoughts on a great win vs the U:

Welcome to Comcast Ceneter Mr Larranaga!!!! Facing a team with superior talent then the Terps, Coach Turgeon’s troops out hustled, out defended, out rebounded and dealt the U a devastating loss. James Padgett dropped an and 1 on an offensive rebound to give the Terps a lead they would not relinquish. Strong d by Freshman Nick Faust preserved the victory.

Let’s not forget it was Captain Sean Mosley who nailed a … Read More »

A great night as Johnny Rhodes at long last has his number 15 lifted into the rafters.

A fast 15-3 start didn’t last too long as Miami surged back and eventually was up by as much as 8, at 32-24 before Stogs landed 5 points.

Strong first half for James Padgett going 4-4 from the field. The Terps are being out rebounded 21-14.

The return of Kenny Kadji makes a big difference in this team. He finished the half … Read More »
