COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Casey Ikeda earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors Tuesday, leading a throng of individual accolades for the Maryland men’s lacrosse team as voted upon by Big Ten coaches.

The Terps placed four players on the All-Big Ten First Team – more than any team – including Kyle Bernlohr, Ikeda, Joe LoCascio and Matt Rambo. Additionally, Jay Carlson and Charlie Raffa earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors. Carlson garnered Maryland’s Sportsmanship Award, as … Read More »

In the wake of Maryland’s disappointing and, to some, upsetting men’s lacrosse loss to Johns Hopkins Saturday night, I thought it the appropriate time to take a big picture look at some great things that are happening in and around Maryland’s athletic department.

A MINI RANT

Let me start with a few words about the lacrosse game. This loss was disappointing but not a tragedy. To the inevitable John Tillman critics who will doubtless emerge from the hidey holes where … Read More »

The 106th renewal of The Rivalry – Maryland versus Johns Hopkins in men’s lacrosse took place in a steady rain at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium in front of 9.343 loud and enthusiastic fans. Maryland fans left disappointed as Johns Hopkins survived an early Maryland blitz coming from three goals down to win 15-12.

Charlie Raffa saw the field for the first time in three games for Maryland and, on the opening faceoff looked as though he hadn’t missed … Read More »

Traditionally, Tillman begins with a look back at the previous week. This week, in his review of Maryland’s thrilling come … Read More »

Hopkins Week has arrived. For all the talk sometimes lavished on other games throughout the year, Hopkins Week is, without question, the most intense week of the Maryland men’s lacrosse season. And the contest, simply known as “The Rivalry”, has a new wrinkle and more import than it has ever had.

For the first time in history of the game, Maryland and Johns Hopkins will meet as conference foes. And a conference title is on the line. By virtue of … Read More »

rivalry trophyThe Big Ten is full of traditional rivalries and, accordingly, has a slew of rivalry trophies. From the Little Brown Jug that goes to the winner of the Michigan – Minnesota football game to the Old Oaken Bucket that the winner of Purdue – Indiana football claims, rivalry trophies are very much a part of B1G tradition.
