Because most NCAA Tournaments are single elimination, when people talk about them, the most aptly overused phrase might be “survive and advance.” Though the level of intensity and competition has the opportunity to turn any game into an edge of your seat thriller, this hasn’t often been the case when the game involves the University of Maryland women’s lacrosse team. Until Saturday, that is, when a goal by Taylor Hensh with 2:14 to play lifted the … Read More »

Since joining the Big Ten for the 2015 season, the Maryland Terrapins women’s lacrosse team has compiled a record of 20-1. The Terrapins are a perfect 16-0 in the regular season and improved to 5-1 in B1G Tournament play with a 14-6 thrashing of the Northwestern Wildcats in Sunday’s championship game at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park. Given Maryland’s dominance in the conference it seems almost unfair to have had the Terps … Read More »

ARTICLE FROM TODD CARTON:

The Maryland Terrapins and Ohio State Buckeyes men’s lacrosse teams took to the turf in Jesse Owens Stadium in the final of the Big Ten Tournament and delivered a game fully worthy of naming a champion. In the end, the trophy will return to College Park for a second consecutive year as the Terps made the last big play in a game filled with big plays and held on to a 10-9 win.

When the final horn sounded after the first game of the Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament semifinal Thursday evening at Jesse Owens Field on the campus of Ohio State, the scoreboard read Maryland 8 Penn State 6.  It marked the 34th time the teams had squared off in lacrosse and the 34th time the Terrapins left the field with the win. Saturday April 15, 2017 may or may not be historic in the annals of Maryland athletics but it’s certainly a day Terrapins’ fans should circle and long remember. We can certainly take some pride in seeing four Terps’ teams compete against Big Ten foes and come away with four wins but there’s one element tying together three of those four wins in particular that is unique and noteworthy. See if you can spot it.

Some nights when you’re the best team in the country, you don’t have to play your best game to win – even when the opponent is the 18th ranked team. This was the case for Maryland’s women’s lacrosse team Wednesday night. The Terps left their ‘A’ game at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park but put together two major runs and managed to leave Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville with a 16-11 win over … Read More »
