Why even have a 2nd round. There were so many foreigners selected who will never see  USA soil let alone play for a NBA team, that it is a joke. Furthermore the 2nd round selection does not guarantee a roster position with a slotted salary. Therefore many players are selected by teams where they have no chance to make the squad. Three-time All-American Kiani Profit, who finished her eligibility at the University of Maryland with a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships earlier this month, will compete in the heptathlon at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Friday and Saturday.

Profit, who hails from Pasadena, Calif., is part of a strong field that will battle for a berth to the 2012 Olympic Games to be held in London. She finished ninth at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Nationals in the heptathlon.

Assistant coach Eric Milton has been elevated to interim head coach of the University of Maryland baseball team, director of athletics Kevin Anderson announced Thursday.

Milton, who played at Maryland from 1994-96 and had an 11-year Major League career, joined the Terrapin coaching staff as volunteer assistant in September 2011.

Quarterback Ricardo Young has committed to play for the University of Maryland, signing a financial-aid agreement, head football coach Randy Edsall announced Thursday.

 Young, who attended Iowa Western Community College this past spring and University of New Mexico in the fall of 2011, will join the Terps for preseason practice, which begins Aug. 6. He will not be eligible to play until 2013 when he will be a redshirt junior.
