Maryland finished eighth in the the final fall Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings which were released Thursday. The Terps have 228 points. Stanford leads the way with 382 and Florida State is second (351). Maryland’s ranking was bolstered by winning the field hockey national championship and placing ninth in both men’s and women’s soccer.

University of Maryland men’s lacrosse seniors Jake BernhardtJoe Cummings and Drew Snider were selected in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse Draft Friday night.

The Hamilton Nationals selected Bernhardt with the 12th overall selection, while the Rochester Rattlers took Cummings with the 17th pick. The Chesapeake Bayhawks picked Snider with the 45th selection. from umterps.com

Casey Townsend became the eighth Terrapin to be drafted with a top five pick in the MLS SuperDraft Thursday. The senior forward was selected fifth overall by Chivas USA.

Townsend was named an NSCAA Second Team All-American and a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist this season while garnering first team All-ACC honors for the second straight year. The Traverse City, Mich., product racked up 17 goals as a captain for the Terps.
