Kent Desormeaux finally won the Belmont , guiding 11-1 underdog Summer Bird past questionable 2nd place finisher Dunkirk. Dunkirk clearly fouled Charitable Man down the homestretch but was given a pass by the stewards. Calvin Borel definitely moved Mine That Bird too soon and eventually was unable to stay with the winner.
The Stanley Cup finals return to Detroit tonight as the Penguins look to keep their winning streak alive. The Pens are younger, more energetic and have momentum on their side. Evgeni Malkin is playing the best hockey he’s played in these playoffs.Sid the Kid will step up tonight,and there will be a changing of the guard as #87 leads his team to victory. Look for Pittsburgh to close out the series on their own ice in game six.

In an utterly surprising move, the Barton brothers cast aside Kentucky and the Carpetbagger, John Calipari and decided on Memphis and Josh Pastner. Will Barton had an excellent relationship with Gary but in the end chose Memphis.
Zagsblog posted an article this morning about the latest in Lance Stephenson’s recruiting. In the article, Lance Stephenson Sr. mentions the efforts our coaches have taken to put Lance in a Terp uniform.

Yesterday, the ACC announced the start times of the first two home games for the Terrapin football team. The home opener against James Madison on September 12 will kickoff at 6 p.m. and the following week (Sept. 19), the Terps will host Middle Tennessee State at 3:30 p.m. These times should be welcomed by tailgaters who don’t want to make their way to lot 1 and lot 9 at 7 in the morning. I don’t know what game Stan Van Gundy was watching but one on one defense against Kobe just isn’t going to work. #24 wound up with 40 points on 16-34 shooting and Superman Dwight Howard was held to 1-6 from the field. I was thinking Lakers in 6 but after this game make that 5 games. Phil Jackson is 43-0 in NBA series when his team wins game 1.
On Coach Gary Williams’ Twitter today, he picked the Lakers to win the NBA Finals in 6 games. With game 1 tonight, who do you think will win?
