I watched 30-30 on Best of Enemies–Celtics Lakers and there was extensive coverage of the impact on the Celtics franchise.

Sometimes, it is simply impossible not to close your eyes and wonder what would have been if, 30 years ago Sunday, Len Bias had not died of a cocaine overdose two days after becoming the No. 2 player taken in the NBA draft.

Bias, who had shown so much promise at Maryland, was targeted for … Read More »

Article from Matt Schubel in the Washington Post

People often ask me which people are the most remarkable characters I’ve ever written about. There have been many, but today I have someone new to add to the list. Jim “King” Corcoran is one of the most fascinating and frustrating, charismatic and callous people I have ever had the pleasure — for that’s what it is — to write about.

His story appears in Sunday’s paper as a Local Life … Read More »

One of the joys of minimally planned travel is having the flexibility to make last minute changes to any day’s activities. This was the case for me last week in when I was in Salt Lake City and I learned that the Salt Lake City Bees – the AAA affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels would be playing the Albuquerque Isotopes (yes, they were named for the team that Albuquerque “stole” from Springfield in a 2001 episodes of the Simpsons!). … Read More »

Celebration of so many Terps in the MLL as Charlotte defeats Bayhawks 15-14.  In their debate Rambo had 2 assists and Heacock had 2 goals and some acrobatic misses.

It’s with deep sadness (and gratitude to Bruce) that I write this memoriam to my friend Harry McGowan who died Friday of cryptogenic liver disease a few months shy of his 76th birthday.

Over the past few years, people have dubbed me “the non-rev” Todd Carton because of my passion for sports at Maryland that don’t draw much attention but the truth is that Harry was the original “non-rev” maven. His memory for past players and teams was prodigious.

Last night Walt Bell tweeted a familiar GIF featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles yelling “cowabunga!” in celebration. The GIF has grown into a custom to the Maryland faithful, representing the Terps have receiving a verbal football commit. Raymond Bonne’s verbal is the second UMD to DMV commit in the last two days.

Four days ago, the Terps received the verbal of 4-star Offensive Tackle Jalen Duncan of St. Francis Academy. Friday’s (three days … Read More »

Two things are true: Greivis Vasquez is planning an NBA comeback after a lengthy rehab, and the Wizards are in desperate need of a backup point guard who can stretch to play shooting guard. Potential Match??? Somehow no one put these two together until a 106.7 and 105.7 the fan interview recently. When Greivis was asked if he wanted to play for his hometown Wizards, he responded: “That’s the plan. Hopefully they’re interested, obviously they want to see me healthy…” … Read More »
