Although she seems upbeat, Maryland head coach Courtney Scott-Deifel doesn’t seem particularly happy as the Maryland Terrapins softball squad prepares to enter their first Big Ten Tournament. And with good reason. After moving above .500 in conference play with a sweep of Penn State, the Terps dropped seven of their final eight games to finish 9-14 and tied for eighth in the league.

Many observers including Maryland men’s lacrosse coach John Tillman expressed some surprise when the Terrapins received the sixth seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Despite their semifinal loss to Ohio State in the Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, no one seemed surprised when the Terps women received the top overall seed for the NCAA Tournament.
