From start to finish, it was a memorable night for No. 5 Maryland.

The Terrapins scored the first 10 points against Penn State and never trailed in a 65-34 rout Monday.

Afterward, the team was presented a sparkling trophy for winning the Big Ten regular-season title.

The Maryland baseball team exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning and defeated Arkansas, 13-6, in the final game of the South Alabama Tournament at Stanky Field Sunday afternoon.

The Terps fell behind 6-1 after five innings, but unleashed the bats in the sixth, plating nine runs on seven hits. Freshman Kevin Smith was spectacular throughout, notching a career-high three hits. The newcomer also made a number of fantastic defensive plays.

The fifth-ranked Maryland women’s basketball team (24-2, 15-0 B1G) clinched the Big Ten title outright Saturday night with three games remaining in the regular season.

The Terps clinched at least a share of the Big Ten title with an 81-70 win at Wisconsin Thursday. With Ohio State’s win over No. 13 Iowa Saturday, the Terrapins took sole possession of the conference championship in their first year in the league.

Sophomore right hander Mike Shawaryn gave up just three hits over seven innings of work as the Maryland baseball team defeated South Alabama, 8-0, at Stanky Field Friday night.

Junior LaMonte Wade was the offensive catalyst, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Junior Kevin Martir added three hits while freshman Andrew Bechtold drove in two.
