Maryland defensive back William Likely has been named to the Athlon Sports Freshman All-America Team, the publication announced on Wednesday. Likely is a third-team selection as a return specialist.
In 12 games, Likely averaged 27.0 yards on 24 kickoff returns, which ranked second in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 13th nationally. His kickoff return average is currently the third-highest Maryland single-season total all-time and is just shy of Stefon Diggs’ freshman record (28.52) set last season.

Nate was a tremendous addition to Kevin Anderson’s staff. I was always impressed with the passion he had for the teams that he oversaw. Over his tenure at Maryland, I got to know Nate very well, sometimes being a sounding board for the myriad of ideas he had for the university. I wish him the best of luck and know that Maryland’s loss is Holy Cross’ gain.
