University of Maryland senior lefthander Jimmy Reed was selected Friday in the sixth round (185th overall) of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Reed is the ninth Terp to be drafted over the last three years and is the highest-selected Terrapin since Brett Cecil was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round (38th overall pick) of the 2007 draft.

Class of 2014 standout Dion Wiley has verbally committed to Maryland coach Mark Turgeon, a source told CBSSports.com early Friday. Wiley subsequently confirmed the news with a text message to CBSSports.com.

Revenue at Maryland Live in Anne Arundel County, which celebrates its one-year anniversary Thursday, totaled $55 million in May for its 4,319 slot machines and 122 table games. The latter were introduced April 11, and officials accurately predicted they would raise the facility’s revenues by more than 20 percent.

 Nothing to do with sports but that number was so staggering I just had to publish it.
