Freshman point guard Chloe Pavlech of the 10th-ranked Maryland women’s basketball team was voted ACC Rookie of the Week Monday by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.

The headline speaks of the divide between Baltimore and DC. Yesterday in the sports shops surroundingthe Verizon Center the only Ravens clothing one could find was the $35 AFC Champion hat in City Sports. When you hear the O bellowed out in the anthem at the Caps game, retailers must understand there is a fairly large Baltimore contingent of Caps fans. Tremendous goal keeping of Michal Neuvirth allowed the Caps to survive a late relentless assault from Mikhail Grigorenko and the Buffalo Sabres. Tianna Hawkins scored 16 points to lead five Terps in double figures and No. 10 Maryland defeated Clemson 80-40 Sunday for head coach Brenda Frese’s 100th ACC win.

After trailing 9-0 through three matches, four consecutive victories including back-to-back pins by 18th-ranked Christian Boley and Dallas Brown propelled the Maryland wrestling team past North Carolina, 21-16, Saturday night at Comcast Pavilion.

In support of Boley and Brown, fifth-ranked Josh Asper and seventh-ranked Jimmy Sheptockeach recorded wins during the comeback. The Terps (10-6, 1-1 ACC) also received a victory from Geoffrey Alexander at 133.  from umterps.com
