Maryland’s Joe Vellano was named to the 2012 Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list. The award honors the top collegiate defensive player in the country.
The list of 42 players, including seven from the Atlantic Coast Conference, was announced at a luncheon Monday held by Ronnie Lott, the NFL Hall of Fame safety, and the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation.
Vellano, a senior in the fall, was a second team All-American and a consensus first team All-ACC choice last season. He led the led … Read More »
It was definitely a high stick from Joel Ward but a double minor? The Rangers tied the game on an improbable goal with 6 seconds left then won in OT as the Caps were a man down. Gut wrenching.
Strictly an emotional letdown after Sunday’s classic.
Maryland broke a 5-5 tie with No. 1 Florida State on Kyle Convissar’stwo-RBI squeeze bunt in the eighth inning and the Terps recorded their ninth win of the season against a ranked team with an 8-5 victory over the Seminoles Monday night.
On a night when Maryland (30-22, 9-18 ACC) reached 30 wins for just the third time in program history, nearly everyone on the roster played a part. Eight starters had at least one hit, while all three of … Read More »
What a tremendous pleasure it was last night to sit and listen to the one and only Frank Deford. Inhis honor I wore my #19 throwback to the event and he immediately could not stop talking about Johnny U once he spotted the jersey. Some of his topics;
Frank went into lengthy discussion on his relationship with Wilt Chamberlain and the personal rivalry with Bill Russell.
When asked about the greatest game he remembered, he quickly talked about 1958.

That’s right, Steve Blake scored 8 in the 4th quarter, blocked a layup by Galinari, and grabbed a key late rebound in perhaps his finest effort as a Laker. It was definitely great to watch!!!
The seedings are out, pretty much as expected except for the fact that Denver and Bill Tierney received an undeserved bid. Maryland will travel to Lehigh Sunday night at 730. The winner will take on the #2 seed Johns Hopkins and Stony Brook. But that’s speculation for next week. Comments from Quint and Carcaterra:Memo-12

Are you kidding me–Chris Davis pitched 2 scoreless innings after going 0-8 at bat. What? Buck Showaalter basically threw in the towel when he sent the first baseman out to pitch the bottom of the 16th of a 6-6 game. Only a great play by JJ Hardy and Wieters allowed the O’s to get to the 17th.
My only question was after the O’s scored 3 on Adan Jones 3 run HR —why not then bring in one of the … Read More »
