Does The Departure of Stoglin Increase The Chances For Maryland To Land The Harrison Twins? In my opinion YES!!!

Some thoughts on today’s events after a day of pondering:

Rumor has it that that the recruiting intensity of Coach Turgeon will pick up on Bino’s guys–the Harrisons. Why you ask. I might be in the minority but who is to say that Stogs would have left after after his Junior year. His decision would have come at the last minute a year from now. With that possibility on the table and another year of dominating the scoring scene—the Harrisons probably would have passed on Maryland. but now the table is clear. Unquestionably they could be the guys should they bring their talents to college Park. Remember this is just my opinion.

I think it is extremely clear why Turge pushed so hard for Cassell. Coach had his share of highs and lows with PeShon which is history now.. However, Terrell played his heart out for the team in his 2 years here. Maybe he shot too much, maybe his defense was suspect but there would have been many more losses without him. I am very saddened to see his career end the way it did. I only hope the best for Terrell and will always be rooting for him.

Just for fun here are some possible starting scenarios for next year. This all depends on the health of PeShon and whether or not Jake is ready for prime time. Believe me it’s endless—–I can’t wait

PeShon at the 1, Seth or Sam at the 2, Nick on the wing, Shaq, Len and Padge–pick 2

PeShon at the 1, Nick at the 2, Layman on the wing—Shaq Len or Padge or Mitchell

Nick at the 1, Cassell or Seth at the 2, Layman at the 3, Shaq and Len

Sam or Seth at the 1, Nick at the 2, Layman, Shaq Len or Padge

Sam and Seth at 1,2 Nick at the wing, Shaq, Len Padge

i don’t think stoglin being at md or not at md would have anything to do with any blue chip guard’s decision in coming to md. any blue chip guard would probably feel they could step in and start for any college team. i think a blue chip guard would be more concerned about front front court players a team has to compliment his/their game. if a team played a slow deliberate offense i don’t think a blue chip guard would have a lot of interest in that school. so to me it comes down to the coach, style of play, how the team interacts and front court players.

It would have been nice if you could have pronounced Stoglin’s name correctly at least once in the two years that he was here on your various radio appearances and shows. It’s ‘Stow-glin’ not ‘Stah-glin’

I agree w Bruce. Right now this seems like a better team already without Stoglin. He was not Mark’s kind of player. And I think he would have been more of a distraction than positive without him being the “man”. And there definitely would have been more contention with Stoglin playing for NBA attention.
Also disagree with Fred re recruits perspectives.
This definitely opens the possibilities as well as scholarships for additional top level recruit/s.
I am more excited about the potential chemistry and cohesiveness for next year, and also have not been a Howard fan either. Though I do think it more likely that they retain Howard through this offseason.
Getting rid of Gary’s recruits/players is again a positive to me.
Again Anderson is taking some heat from Friedgen disappointed fans, which is unfair and unwarranted. I feel we are cleaning house and am more than encouraged by both programs now.

the simple way to replace stoglin is have faust shoot twice as many shots as everyone else and he’ll lead the acc in scoring. that’s what stoglin did shooting 41%. of course that’s not smart. when vasquez wanted to go to the nba he went to tryouts and found out he wasn’t ready and came back to work on his game. stoglin wanted to leave but found out no one wanted him. my gut says he would have been playing for himself more than the team. most guys who want to come out and don’t rarely play well. they don’t want to be in college. vasquez was a different type of person. who loved college. he loved playing for gary and he accepted the fact he wasn’t ready after his jr year. also keep in mind md should have far more options to score next yr compared to last yr. faust didn’t start hitting shots until feb. he’s back. len has a year’s experience plus a year to get acclimated to being in a new country. cleare, cassell, mitchell and layman are all considered pretty advanced offensively for incoming freshman and probably have better offensive skills than pankey or padgett. it’s very possible stoglin could have been a “john gilchrist” rather than a vasquez had he returned. let’’s not forget he butted heads many times with turgeon and turgeon was heard yelling during a game at the acc tourney that stoglin isn’t coachable. so i think the team chemistry will be better and the terps will have far better balanced scoring

Coach Turgeon gets something that “Coasting Gary Williams” did not. The new coach understands that making relationships and recruiting in the biggest hotbed of high school basketball talent in the world has to be your main focus. Gary is focused on the area talent like a lazer beam. I go to a lot of the local basketball games in Baltimore, Washington and even Philidelphia but I never saw Gary. I saw all the other top coaches on the east coast but never Gary. To compete in todays college basketball world you have to win the recruiting wars. Gary never even suited up for battle. Turgeon, because of the way he treats recruiting is going to make the University of Maryland one of the hottest tickets in Hoopdom.
