I know it’s only February 24 but I am one happy Terrapin today. Sometime about noon the weekly polls will be posted on inside lacrosse.com and we should find the Men perched in the #1 spot in the NCAA after their victory over Loyola. Plus the Women will be back in the #1 spot after thrashing Duke 15-6.. Sorry Coach Tillman, and Coach Reese, I know you are both down playing this but there is joy in Terrapin nation!!!!
Today’s game against Duke was not as close as the final score indicates. Maryland dominated from the outset, leading 9-2 at halftime and basically slept through the 2nd half. Maryland outshot Duke 32-17 and won the groundball war 15-5. Only a stellar effort by the 2nd team goalie from Duke kept the difference in goals to 9. As Cathy walked out with assistant Coach Caitlyn McFadden for the 2nd half,it was indeed my voice you might have heard shouting “No mercy.”
With the addition of Taylor Cummings, Maryland’s squad is as deep as any Terrapin team I can remember. There are numerous weapons to go to and Cathy has the team playing a brand of unselfish ball that has the Terps off and running. Brooke Griffin led the way today with 3 goals and 2 assists and Katie, Taylor, Alex Aust all had 3 points.
The road is tough for both teams this week as the Men travel to Duke to face a desperate Blue Devil squad that already has lost 3 and the Ladies journey to Charlottesville to face UVA who squeaked by Cuse today.
