Terps 52 JMU 7—The Score Says it All===No Contest

Observations of a blowout:

Great crowd of 45,080  led by absolutely packed student sections on a MUGGY Saturday afternoon

CJ and the Terps had a great rushing day and a so so passing day

I watched the replay and Benanati and Scott McBrien were excellent

NOTES from umterps.com

Curtain Raisers: With the win, Maryland improved to 4-0 in season openers under head coach Randy Edsall and extended its season-opening home winning streak to 11.

Racking It Up: Maryland eclipsed 50 points for the first time since defeating East Carolina (51-20) at the 2010 Military Bowl (12//29/10). The 52 points scored by the Terps are the most by a Terrapin offense since scoring 62 against Wake Forest on Oct. 30, 2010 (62-14).

Pound It In: Quarterback C.J. Brown rushed for three scores and running backs Brandon Ross and Albert Reid each added another as Maryland rushed for five scores

All-Time TD List: Quarterback C.J. Brown rushed for three scores increasing his career total to 20, which is the ninth-most in school history. Brown has now rushed for three touchdowns in two of the last three games dating back to last season. He rushed for three at NC State (11/30/13) to close the 2013 regular season. It is tied for the sixth-highest single-game output in school history and is the most by a Terrapin quarterback.

Craddock Connects: Kicker Brad Craddock hit his first field goal of the season and the 32nd of his career with a 49 yarder that put Maryland up 17-0 late in the first quarter.

Ross Carries the Load: Running back Brandon Ross carried the ball 16 times for 86 yards and one score. For Ross, it was his fifth career rushing touchdown.

Brown to Long: Wide receiver Deon Long hauled in his second career touchdown as a Terp after C.J. Brown found the wide out down the right sideline for a 41-yard score. Long’s first career score came in Maryland’s season opener last season against FIU (8/31/13). For Brown, it was his 21st career touchdown pass moving him into a tie for 12th all-time at Maryland with Dick Shiner (1961-63).

Offensive Notes: Fullback Kenneth Goins Jr. caught his second career touchdown pass after connecting with quarterback Caleb Rowe, his eighth touchdown pass of his career … wide receiver Stefon Diggs led all receivers with five catches for 53 yards, averaging a team-high 10.6 yards per catch … wide receiver Jacquille Veii made his first career catch.

Defensive Notes: Linebacker L.A. Goree led the Terps with 14 tackles, two shy of his career high of 16 … safety Anthony Nixon intercepted one pass and now has two for his career … cornerback William Likely totaled his first career sack … defensive linemen Roman Braglio and Spencer Myers combined on a sack. It was Myers’ first career sack and increased Braglio’s total to 2.5.
