Baseball Americs Pegs 5 Terps as Top Prospects

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Baseball America officially announced its top prospect lists for 20 college summer leagues Tuesday with five Maryland players making the cut, tied for the fourth-highest total of any school in the country.

Lefty Alex Robinson headlines the group being selected as the top prospect from the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Four Terps were named to the Cal Ripken League top prospect list with Justin Morris, Brandon Lowe, Willie Rios and Nick Cieri checking in at third, fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively.

Baseball America ranked the top-30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, the top-23 prospects for Team USA, and the top-10 prospects in 18 other summer college leagues, plus a top five in the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League.

An all-star in the NECBL, Robinson managed to strike out twice as many batters (26) as he walked (13) in 21 innings for the Keene Swamp Bats. Robinson posted a 1-1 record with a 3.37 ERA in eight appearances (four starts).

In the CRCBL, freshman All-American Lowe tied for the league lead in RBI (29), tied for fourth in home runs (4) and ranked fifth in batting average (.329) helping lead the Bethesda Big Train to the regular season league title. Morris, also a member of the Big Train, hit .345 in 12 games with three doubles and four RBI.
