at this time hard to get excited about a maryland-rutgers rivalry. now a md-penn state rivalry…….

in regards to davis. it’s frustrating watching him struggle. imagine how frustrating it is for him. davis has always been a streaky hitter so hopefully he’ll get untracked and produce like he has since coming to baltimore. he still is drawing walks, hustling and playing great defense. there is still quite a few games to go and i am confident davis will be a positive factor for the orioles. and by the way, there are other o’s struggling at the plate since the all star break.

I wonder about the amount of playing time Likely will see as a “three-way” player. I might have a skewed memory but I thought the last few games of the season last year when he was playing on offense took a bit of a toll on him.

I also wonder about trying to institute a MD-Rutgers (buttgers) rivalry after just 2 years in the B1G East. In a short film about MD-Duke basketball, Gary Williams reminded people that there was no rivalry when he got to College Park but the intensity of the competition built the rivalry for the players and the fan bases (though the southern half was loath to admit as much). My point is that the creation of a rivalry needs to be organic not artificial. For the schools to declare a rivalry won’t make it so.

My last point goes to J C Jackson. Many of us know that Jackson ran into some trouble at Florida where he was criminally charged with armed robbery and subsequently acquitted. The minimum that seems clear from my research is that Jackson didn’t choose his friends wisely.

Mark Turgeon took on two troubled transfers who not only made significant contributions to Maryland basketball but turned out to be model citizens and excellent role models during their time at Maryland. I hope the same is in store for J C Jackson.
