Fridge Comments on Future Opponents, Cabrera Drops One to Seattle, Phelps Readies for 8 Gold Medals

In basically his last free day for the season , Coach Ralph Friedgen commented on scheduling future rivalry games for the Terps. “Some of the proposals — such as emphasizing West Virginia and other “rivalry” opponents — are designed to appeal largely to fans.

“When I was at Georgia Tech, we played Georgia and I loved that game. That’s what gets the crowds going,” Friedgen said. “Anytime you play a border state, there’s going to be a rivalry and that’s good for your program. Virginia is always a big game, but their rivalry is with Virginia Tech.”

Maryland and West Virginia next meet in 2010. Friedgen said he’d also like to schedule more games with Navy, whom the Terrapins last played in 2005 and don’t meet again until 2010.  The most recent hurdle with Navy, a debate over the 2007 Bowl game selection has been cleared and it’s time to make Maryland Navy a yearly event.

It’s Guthrie and Olsen and pray for for rain as Daniel Cabrera allowed 6 runs in a 8-4 loss to Seattle Sunday. The LA Angels and MarK Teixeira are next.  Manny Ramirez is off to a flying start with the Dodgers recording 4 hits today in another Dodger triumph.  Bucknell’s JR Holden, Russia’s starting point guard was overwhelmed by Team USA in an exhibition game won easily by the USA.  Kobe led the show today.
