Davin Meggett Stands Out in 1st Scrimmage, Phelps Wins 1st Gold in 400 Medley, Edu, Rogers lead Men to 1-0 Win in Soccer

Freshman Davin Meggett scored twice in a intra squad scimmage as the defensive dominated the Offense on Saturday.  The 3 QBs played about equally well though Portis was intercepted by Nolan Carroll, who returned it 26 yds to the house.

Michael Phelps easily won the 400 medley, shattering the world record. This is the first of 8 events, the NBAC Baltimore native has entered.  Maryland soccer alums Maurice Edu and Robbie Rogers helped lead the U.S. Men’s Olympic Soccer Team to a 1-0 victory against Japan in the team’s opener at the 2008 Olympic Games.  Edu, who started at center back for the U.S., solidified the defense throughout the match, as Japan only managed two shots on goal. Rogers, also a starter, wreaked havoc on the Japanese with several attacking runs with the ball at his feet. Stuart Holden netted the lone goal of the contest in the 47th minute as 37,177 fans looked on at Tianjin Olympic Stadium.

The Orioles continued their winning ways as Cabrera pitched 7 scoreless innings on the way to a 9-0 shutout of Texas. Chris walters starts Sunday for the O’s.
