Lady Terps Fall at UVA — Men’s Team Awaits Return Match with the U

Marissa Coleman had 19 points and Demauria Liles added a career-best 18, but it was not enough as the Maryland women’s basketball team fell to Virginia, 89-81. The loss drops the Terrapins two games back of Florida State for first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference. “Credit Virginia,” head coach Brenda Frese said following the defeat. “They did a tremendous job in the second half. That’s life on the road in the ACC. We have to let UVA teach us a lesson and they taught us a lot about ourselves tonight.”

The men’s team hopes to turn around its recent misfortunes with a win over Miami tonight. Miami seems to give the Terps fits with their bruising Big East style of play. Look for Sean Mosley to get some minutes tonight and guard his fellow Baltimorean Jack McClinton.  Stop McClinton and victory will follow. Remember the Terps led the Hurricanes by 17 with 12 minutes to go in Miami. Jin Soo Kim is again eligible to play for the Terps. The unsteady play of Eric Hayes has been a sore point lately for the Terps. Gary was asked about this on Friday as read in Terrapin Times “I am concerned, but I am really rooting for Eric because he has played a lot of basketball before and he will play a lot in the future. It’s just getting through this period, and it’s a shame. The last game against Boston College. You see some shots and it looks like it is going in. He had three like that. If you can make a couple in a row, he will be fine. There is nothing wrong with his stroke. We talked quite a bit about maintaining what he does. Easy for me, I am not the one shooting the ball. The mental part of that is really tough on anybody in any sport. Eric has been a great scorer his whole life. Hopefully he can get it back.”

Maryland’s Wrestling defeated the Naval Academy for the 2nd year in a row 20-14 at Comcast Friday night. Sophomore Patrick Gilmore, Heavyweight, earned a tiebreak victory in the final match of the night to seal the victory against Navy

Finally after much anticipation the #3 Preseason Ranked Men’s lacrosse team takes the turf for a pair of scrimmages against Delaware and Loyola on Saturday at the turf fields next to the Comcast Center at 11AM.
