In news that had to be crucial to the city, the entourage of Derby winner Mind That Bird came to the realization that participation in the Preakness was the right move. The chance to become a triple crown winner though slim for Mine That Bird is a temptation no trainer or owner can resist provided the horse is physically able. Remember Mind That Bird was bred for distance, so a win in the Preakness could set him up be a true champion since the Belmont is a 1 and 1/2 mile race.

I wish that Calvin Borel was riding Mind That Bird in the Preakness instead of Rachel Alexandra, who is an early favorite. Borel is so confident that Rachel Alexandra will win the Preakness that he said, “The 12 other horses are going to have to run the race of their life or me fall off or something stupid happen”.
I will still be pulling for “Mind That Bird” come Saturday even though I’m a Louisiana boy who loves to watch Calvin ride. It would be sweet to see a ninety five hundred dollar horse win the Triple Crown. With Mike Smith getting pointers from Calvin Borel Saturday morning, Mind That Bird has a great shot at winning the race tomorrow.
