Maryland’s Basketball Academic Performance Improves Dramatically

I have been saying for 3 years that Maryland’s basketball players have been graduating at a high percentage and I guess the news today verifies this. Don’t ask me to explain, but Maryland’s academic index improved from 906 to 912. No scholarships were lost by the Terps. The Baltimore Sun reports, Maryland created an academic improvement plan a few years ago after falling short of the cutoff score in men’s basketball.

“We have made excellent progress academically in our program recently, as shown by the fact that eight of our last 10 seniors have earned their degree,” Maryland men’s basketball coach Gary Williams said in a written statement. “Three of three seniors graduated in May 2008 and the only senior on this year’s team will graduate in two weeks. Our rate is higher than last year and, once again, we’re not in danger of losing any scholarships.”
