The pupil defeated the teacher today as Cathy Reese defeated one of her mentors, the legendary Gary Gait, and will enter her first final four as a coach next weekend at Johnny Unitas Stadium on the Towson University Campus. I remember back to last year when a great Maryland team was upset in the quarterfinals and missed the final four at Towson. Cathy was upset having to watch rather then be in the 2 semifinal matchups. Well her response was to lead her team to a 21-0 record with a #2 in the Championship tournament.
Syracuse behind 105 point scorer Katie Rowan jumped out to a 4-0 lead but from that point in the game, Maryland began to dominate. Caitly McFadden score 4 times to go along with Sarah Mollison’s hat trick to upend Cuse. Maryland goalie Brittany Dipper made several key stops in the 2nd half to help preserve the victory.
