Lakers Go Up 3-1 With 99-91 OT Thriller–Missed Foul Shots Doom Orlando

Derek Fisher show signs of “Big Shot Bob Horry” with 2 monster 3s down the stretch as the Lakers struggled to overcome a terrific defensive performance from Dwight Howard. Superman finished the game with 21 rebounds and 9 blocked shots, but missed 2 crucial free throws , either one of which would have clinched the game. Again, Stan Van Gundy up by 3 with 11 seconds left decided not to foul and the Magic was burned by Derek’s 3 pointer. Pau Gasol was big in OT and might have permanently erased the soft label. Game 5, the clincher for LA is Sunday at 8. Kobe wound up with 32 points tonign Gundy, Jameer Nelson, Orlando Magicht.

Nice comparison, Fisher looking like “Big Shot Bob Horry.” Don’t forget Fisher made a big, big shot in the playoffs a few years ago, too. It wasn’t the finals but it was big. This was for the Lakers, too, before he got traded, then came back.

With 0.4 left and the Lakers trailing, Fisher did a catch and shoot 3-pointer from the left side to win the game. Until then, I never realized a score was possible with less than a second left. I was surprised I didn’t see ESPN or anybody refer back to this Fisher big shot when LeBron hit his game winner on an inbound play with 1.0 in the conference finals.

Every championship team needs that “surprise ” factor. The names Horry, Rondo from last year, Bailey Howell from the Celtics Russell era, Wally Jones from the 76ers title, Mitch Kupchak when the Bullets won, Steve Kerr with the Bulls, on and on.
