Tiger Woods misses the the cut in “The Open”. ABC executives are sick. No one other than hard core golf fans watch the sport unless Tiger Woods is in contention. However a great story is unfolding. 59 year old Tom Watson, a 5 time winner of the world’s most revered golf tournament is tied for the lead after 36 holes. Last year, 54 year old Greg “The Shark” Norman, a two time Open champion, played exceptionally well for 54 holes before fading in the final round. But Watson, who for 4 years in a row was the number one player on the PGA tour, is a far more accomplished, successful golfer. What if Watson wins or is in contention throughout the final round? First, in regards to the t.v. people, will the casual sports fan watch if Watson is in contention on Sunday? And secondly, if Watson wins “The Open”, is it good for golf that a 59 year old wins the world’s most prestigious championship? And, don’t forget Big John Daly is even par through 36. I would be thrilled if Big John and Watson run 1-2 in ‘The Open”. Reporting live from my living room in Boca Raton, Fl. this is Terp Talk cub reporter Freddy from Boca signing off.
