44,000 Watch as Notre Dame and Duke Advance to Championship Game

Irish Goalie Scott Rodgers put his team on his back in the first quarter as he collected 8 saves, keeping the Big Red in check. After that his Junior Middie teammate Zach Brenneman took over and quarterbacked the unseeded Notre Dame to a clear cut 12-7 victory. Sr Attackman Neal Hicks scored 4 goals as the game was never in doubt from midway through the 2nd stanza.

The 2nd game was a seesaw match with Duke overcoming 2 three goal UVA advantages to rally and eventually blow a 4 goal lead. Max Quinzani scored with 12 seconds left to lift Duke into the title game. Remember Duke still has Bonus year players including Ned Crotty. Coach Dom Starsia after the game: “These are hard when they end like this. It’s been a really extraordinary spring in so many different ways. I give credit to Duke and Coach Danowski and his group first and foremost. They played an inspired game, especially in the second half, they were really flying around. I am so proud of so many people. I don’t really know where to begin. The fact that we played hard and came back and had a chance to roll over and didn’t. I probably wouldn’t have expected anything less. The final score may be the least important part of what has transpired here throughout the spring. The final score wasn’t what we hoped for, but it doesn’t diminish who we are and what they battled through and the men that they are. I thought it was a great game, it wasn’t our cleanest game. They have a way to turn it into an unsettled scrum and they can make some spectacular plays when the ball is flying around.”
