LADY TERRAPINS BRING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BACK TO COLLEGE PARK WHERE IT BELONGS!!!! TERPS 13 Wildcats 11 Behind Brilliant Play of Caitlyn McFadden

It’s a great day to be a Terp.  NORTHWESTERN attempted to deliver an early Knockout punch sprinting to a 6-0 lead but the mighty Champions from College Park got up off the canvas and outscored the Cats 13-5 the rest of the way to secure the title. Northwesren seemed dazed and confused trying to penetrate the Terps defense most of the night. Goalie Brittany Dipper was stellar in the nets the last 3/4 of the game. Some of my many observations of the night.

Is there any doubt that Baltimore remains the capital of Lacrosse. 9800 to watch a Women’s Lacrosse game. This doesn’t include hundreds who probably turned away after seeing the traffic near Towson.

On Terp Talk last Thursday night. I declared Katie Schwartzmann to be the X factor in this tournament. Katie scored 3 goals and just missed on several others.

ee Caitlyn Mcfadden who proved to be the MVP of the tourney. She only scored twice but the first goal gave Maryland its first lead at 9-8 and then she quarterbacked this team the rest of the way to victory. Caitlyn was alos asked by Coach Cathy Reese to play crease defense keeping an eye on NW superstar, Katrina Dowd. The result –no goals for Dowd!!! WomensLax.com had announced on Friday that Dowd was Player of the Year. Personally I find it ridiculous that they snubbed McFaddn.  IF CAITLYN doesn’t win the Tewaaraton Award there is no justice. She was the #1 player on the #1 team in the land.

Sarah Mollison certainly provided the key plays tonight as when the Terps were down 6-0, Sarah demanded the ball and responded by bringing the Terps back into the game. #1, the Attackwoman from Down Under will be the team leader and go to player next year.

The stats for the most part were pretty even but Karrie Ellen Johnson dominated Danielle Spncer in the draws in a case of might over height. Game in game out, Karrie Ellen Johnson is a consistent leader of this team. She has proven to be unstoppable around the cage.

Listen in Thursday night for my postgame interviews of Coach Reese and Caitlyn McFadden. But here is my play by play feed for the final 25 seconds. Excuse the partisan emotion. Last 25 sec

The flow of the game was certainly dictated by the call of 73 penalty situations. The first half alone had 38 fouls. The refs took 2 goals away from the Terps, one on a clear miscall of offsides. NW’s first goal was allowed although there was a clear crease violation. But truthfully the calls went both ways  and were no excuses for either side. But 73?

Wildcat Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller was clearly upset and eventually praised the Terps for their excellence. Kelly, you had 5 titles and then lost in the finals. There is no questioning the emergence of Northwestern as a Lax power. But tonight the Cats are no longer the supreme team in the land.  Hiller post Title

So in summary it was a great birthday present from the Lady Terps. There is much more to be covered in the next few days.
