Regulation and two overtime periods were not enough to decide the ACC Women’s Soccer Championship, but Wake Forest took the title in a shootout over the No. 2 seed Maryland. The match, which ended 1-1 in double-overtime, is officially a tie and makes the Terps overall season record 17-2-2. The Demon Deacons move to 12-7-3 on the season. Wake goalie Aubrey Bledsoe stopped 3 of the 4 shots in the shootout.
Junior Ashley Grove gave the Terps an early cushion with the game’s first goal in the fifth minute of play. Sophomore Domenica Hodak split two defenders with a nice pass down the left side to junior Lydia Hastings. Hastings, with time to survey the field, found Grove making a run down the seam. Grove collected the pass and finished the play with a nicely struck shot into the upper right 90 from 14 yards out. from umterps.com
