BREAKING NEWS: TERRAPIN NATION IS STUNNED–Randy Edsall To Be Named New Terrapin Football Coach

For once I am without comments. I really thought the hiring of Mike Leach was a fait accompli. It is very hard for me to comment on Randy Edsall because I know so little of UConn’s football program and Big East Football. I am extremely interested to hear what were the stumbling blocks to a Mike Leach hire.  Though I am disappointed I assure everyone that I will give the new coach all the support I can and judge with an open mind. Every Maryland program always has and always will get my full support.  Many Terrapin fans are in an uproar as I write. But it is time to take a step back and hear our Athletic Director explain the process and the selection of Edsall.

Fire Kevin Andersen, he tells us that Ralph was fired for business reasons, are you kidding me this does not excite the fan base or help more people to come out to the games, it makes it worst. I think some of the higher ups like Kirwan crushed having Leach as our head coach. Kevin Andersen seems way over his head considering how he handled Ralph’s firing and who he picked as our new head coach. God help us, because Maryland needs it.

Edall is not a bad coach, he’s just not an upgrade from Friedgen. Kevin Anderson fired Friedgen, because he said he wanted to go from good to great – and said it was a “business decision” to put more butts in seats. People have been lining up to buy season tickets as soon as Leach is hired. There will be no such buzz with Edsall. So, his decision makes no sense. Bottom-line is that Anderson has no cohunes – he’s a coward. . .incompentant. How do you screw up such an EASY decision. It was a no-brainer. Kevin Anderson has now been on the job a few months and has made TWO HUGE MISTAKES – PLEASE FIRE KEVIN ANDERSON NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would have preferred leach but we have edsall. edsall took a div 2 aa or whatever and built a d 1 program from scratch in an area where college football is about number 10 on the sports scale. other than b.c. what other top college programs are there in new england. he built a very nice program in an area that puts out very few top notch college players compared to the balt wash va area. he is highly regarded around the country. yes leach was the sexy pick and no question would have generated a lot of initial excited and probably would have done great at md. but we have to give edsall a chance. no question anderson is on the line big time because he botched the firing of ralph and most are upset with this choice. keep in mind anderson isn’t the only voice in this process and more than likely some very powerful people had a lot of influence in the selection of the new coach. bottom line it was time for ralph to go. the question is will anderson be around when gary leaves > don’t forget gary is 65 so how many more yrs will he coach.

I read few blogs, one where it said based on donors/higher ups at MD, that they did hear that Andersen might have been told that Leach is not to be hired by the chancellor and Edsall is the man. Politics of this university at its worst, if it is true. They can only blame themselves if it does not work out. The other key question, how much money Maryland is willing to put into this program; paying good money for their assistants and upgrades. Still in utter shock with this decision, I think that I am in denial.

I am stunned. If Leach was not the guy , why settle on someone? Do you realize how many candidates are available.

Political correctness has always been part of the md sports scene. It is awful. Leach was the man to fill the stands with his offense. This is a lateral move. If this is what they wanted they should have kept the fridge. He went 9-4 and ACC coach of the year. If Edsall doesn’t win big next year the stadium will be empty.
