On the strength of a solid fall, Maryland ranks seventh in the current Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings which were released Wednesday. The Terps have 273 points. Stanford leads the way with 399 and North Carolina is second (380). Ohio State (369), Florida State (361.50) and Penn State (300) round out the top five. The ACC has set the pace heading into the winter championships by having five of its schools finish in the top 10. Duke is ninth and Virginia ranks 10th.
All eight fall NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: men’s cross country – Oklahoma State; women’s cross country – Villanova (Pa.); women’s field hockey – Maryland; women’s soccer – Notre Dame; men’s soccer – Akron; men’s water polo – Southern California; women’s volleyball – Penn State; FCS football – Eastern Washington; FBS football – Auburn.
