#1 Lady Terps Rally From 6-3 Deficit To Win 3rd Straight ACC Championsip 12-7 Over The Tar Heels

It’s halftime and the score is 6-3 and the Terps are still missing the best player in the country, Karri Ellen Johnson, but their demeanor was calm. Confidence was still  overflowing. Coach Cathy Reese’s message to the team “Start having fun” The 2nd half was a different game. Led by Laura Merrifield’s 5 goals, the Terps outscored NC 9-1. It was never a contest. The Terps refused to sit on the lead, instead they imposed their will on the shell shocked Heels. In addition to Merrifield, senior Katie Gallagher, junior Brittany Dipper,  Sarah Mollison and Katie Schwarzmann were all tabbed to the all-tournament team. It is Dipper’s third straight appearance on the team. After missing last season due to a battle with Crohn’s Disease, Gallagher led the Terrapin defense with a game-high three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
