charles “bubba” smith died today at the age of 66. bubba was one of the greatest defensive lineman in college football history, an all-american at michigan st univ. where spartan fans chanted “kill bubba kill”, bubba played in the “game of the century”, nov. 19, 1966..#1 notre dame vs. #2 michigan st. the game ended in a 10-10 tie. bubba was enshrined in the college football hall of fame in 1988. a first round pick of the baltimore colts, the athletic 6-8 defensive end helped the hosses win super 5 vs. the dallas cowboys. bubba suffered a devastating knee injury in an exhibition game in 1972 getting entangled with the sideline chains. he was never the same physically again. the texas native retired from football after the 1976 season and became an actor. he was best known for his portrayal of officer moses hightower in the police academy movies. long live bubba smith.
