Danny or CJ? My Take

In no way shape or form is this a 2nd guess. Coach Edsall was clearly correct in yanking Danny Saturday. CJ gave the team a spark and his 77 yard scamper for a TD proves there are definite times when he should be inserted in the lineup. However, though he experienced a few drops, his passes for the most part were so off the mark I was not sure where he was even throwing to. To defeat a Clemson or FSU we will need a passing game. Unless there was something I missed CJ didn’t produce any sort of expertise. That brings me back to Danny—I am flabbergasted. Here is what I know:

Danny is a playbook freak. The first thing he asked Edsall was when could he get a playbook.

Fill out the poll ballot and I shall discuss the results on Thursday night .

Danny is a true leader–the team has (or least had) total confidence in him.

Danny proved he could toss the seed in the opening game against the U. His bomb to Dorsey to set up the winning TD was a thing of perfection and please don’t tell me Ray Ray wasn’t playing. Danny was ACC Freshman of the year and easily received my vote.

As far as I know, Danny has no attitude problems. Everyone who knows Danny thinks the world of him and that includes Coach Harbaugh.

This is what I think:

Danny is not the first player to go through a sophomore slump. Why this happens so much I don’t understand.

His receivers are constantly dropping passes (Ronnie Tyler on the first set of downs)

He was obviously affected when 2 of his top receivers (McCree and Tyler) were suspended. that would be similar to Flacco losing Anquan and Ed Dickson a night before a game. I wonder how Joe would do. So his confidence was shaken and he hasn’t got it back.

Questions:

Is it the no huddle hurry up that is bothering him?

Is there an injury we don’t know about?

Should he be taking more snaps from under center?

Coach Edsall will figure this out but for now I would be starting Danny but utilizing CJ as well. Despite all that has happened, if we have the ball and have to score to win, Danny O’Brien is still the man to go to. Have faith and patience and most of all remember last year.
