Veteran midfielders Kyle Dixon and Steven Brooks led the way as the Chesapeake Bayhawks earned a huge road victory, beating the Denver Outlaws 18-16 on Saturday night at Sports Authority Field. Dixon fired in a pair of 2-point goals in totaling seven points while Brooks scored the game-tying and winning goals in totaling five points for Chesapeake, which improved its record to 4-1 and moved into a first place tie with Boston.“This was a real character win and I’m very proud of our players,” Chesapeake head coach Dave Cottle said. “Hopefully, a big road win like this will make our team tighter.”

On the defensive side goalie Kip Turner made some huge saves down the wire to trigger the offense. Also, newly acquired veteran Nicky Polanco ended all Denver hopes with a steal in the final moments of the game. Rookie Mark Matthews from University of Denver scored 4 times in his debut for the Outlaws. Drew Snider, fresh off his tremendous NCAA run scored a goal in his first game as well. The Bayhawks return home next week to face Charlotte Saturday night in Annapolis.
