The Chesapeake Bayhawks got out to a 7-1 first quarter lead against the Charlotte Hounds and never relented on the way to their 15-7 route Saturday evening.
Both John Grant Jr. and Drew Westervelt had circus goals in the second quarter. Grant’s goal was a flip behind his back while Westervelt took a one hand shot after he was knocked to the ground in front of the Hound’s goal. Both were unassisted.
The Bayhawks were dominant on the face-offs, winning the first 4 in a row. Nicky Polanco lead an aggressive defensive unit, stifling the Charlotte offense and delivering quite a few big hits throughout the game. Polanco was possibly a little overaggressive as he was called for an illegal body check after a Hounds goal in the second quarter.
Other performers of note were Joey Kemp who was a stone wall in the goal and attack-man Mack Mackrides who scored while absorbing a massive hit from a Charlotte defenseman in the second quarter.
